Maybe, but that doesn't mean that sales of the consoles wouldn't plummet. Because they would.

I know I usually say that "People are idiots" (seriously, it's like my family motto by this point), but I have to admit they're smart enough to know that not being able to have pre-owned games on a system will mean that they're extremely limited in the number of games they can afford, especially with prices as high as they are for big-name titles (Battlefield and Call of Duty have gone from the standard £30 on launch in the UK to around £40 for no adequate reason) and given the current economic situation (we're on the brink of another recession in Europe, and don't think that won't affect the rest of the world!).

Blocking out old games may be good for publishers, but ultimately it just punishes the consumer. Most of us will just decide the high prices aren't worth it and will stick with our current consoles rather than going with one that costs an absolute fortune. Plus, there's also borrowing/renting games - this'll pretty much cripple people and companies (Gamefly, etc) who do that.

There's a lot of factors to consider in this, and ultimately while it may sound like a good idea on paper, I really doubt it'll ever happen. If it does, expect it to be a very unpopular move and the console not to sell well. It's pretty much as JedExodus says - you won't get all three major consoles to do it, because if two don't allow pre-owned games and one does, the one that does WILL sell more. Lots more.

^ Maybe thats exactly what Nintendo is banking on! XD

(And its not like used games don't help publishers, because they do. They facilitate the spread of culture and brand awareness. I know certain devs and series I follow now were due to me purchasing an older title used beforehand and enjoying it. In the end of the day anti-used DRM is basically cutting your leg off because you stubbed your toe! XD)

While a month old, I thought I'd post this because I like how Nintendo may finally be embracing digital mediums-

Nintendo says Wii U titles will be available as digital downloads as well as retail- 3DS will follow suit

So sort of what the PS3 and XBox360 do now. Huh. Wonder if Ninty's digital versions will be twice the price as the retail ones as well, thus dissuading people from getting them that way. :shrug:

To give Microsoft credit, they do eventually reduce the price of their games.
(Depends on the publisher and game though. Rock Band 3 can be bought for £15. Thats good value, but Mortal Kombat is STILL £50! XD)

But they never go below the £15 mark.

Which at times can still be pretty ridiculous -_-
(Yes I'm going to pay £15 for a 4 year old game that can be bought most places for like £5...)

It isn't a black one no, but it is very nice to know I can still play Wii games with a gamecube controller on my WiiU now.

And Pikmin 2 is finally coming over TO the Wii, so that is one less Gamecube game to be worried about if I do have to sell my Wii for it(I have no Gamecube anymore

I'll get back to you on that, but its a White classic controller designed to look exactly like a gamecube controller. It even functions as one and can be plugged into a wii-mote and a Gamecube controller slot.

I hate digital games. Digital titles take up Hard Drive space. Memory is expensive. A disk is not.

When you have about 60 or so game discs for a console, its very convenient to have digital copies that you can just load up and play.

(I talk of this with experience. Got over 40 360 Games on Disc, about 70 Xbox Games. And hardly any of those get played when I can just launch a game on steam or a XBLA arcade game or something)
(Though I'm in love with my PSP currently. I have every game I got on it!

(Like 25 games or so... Having the UMDs on hand all the time would be very, very unwieldly so ripping onto a memory card is a nice option for us custom firmware folk! XD))

EDIT: A regular external hard drive isn't that expensive, especially compared with the cost of the 360 Hard-drive and the PSP/Vita memory cards.
(I can only have 60gb of memory on my PSP because I use an adaptor with 2 32gb micro SDs in it...)

They take up less space too. My external 500gb drive is much much smaller than my giant binder of discs! XD

All the publishers will eventually go with the no-resale method because people are willing to pay for it. The 18-32 demographic buys high and buys new because they are a fanatical bunch.

That's just the thing. If let's say XBOX goes no-resale and COD decides they want that and goes exclusive.... Does anyone really think this will stop the fans from eating it up? Think they'll boycott it? Probably not.

the FANS won't boycott, but you are forgetting something, the actual retail stores. Do you really think Gamestop would allow these things?

It has two plugs for the one controller? A Gamecube controller plug is different from a Wii Remote plug, you know.

Are you talking about the white GameCube controller Nintendo released recently?

because that is just an ordinary GameCube controller, albeit with a much longer cable than the original controllers for the GameCube had.

It's not a Classic Controller Pro, and it doesn't plug into a Wii Remote.

No, its a third party thing. It has 2 different plugs on it, one for a classic controller, and one for a gamecube slot. It looks exactly like that though, only difference are the 2 plugs.
