Hey now, if we can assume everyone who glances at the thread and doesn't vote is a naysayer, why not extend it to every person who hasn't even looked at it? Really, it's a really small logical leap if you think about it!

So huh, I guess it's more like 7 billion to four!

Sure, if you are so inclined. And that could be the name of the second DOTT Game!

The art style of the original MM is quirky and unique. I feel this project is unnecessary.

I actually enjoyed the art style of DOTT more.

I'm saying no for the opposite reason Dashing said. Rather than saying no because DOTT wasn't a good game (to him), I'm saying no because it WAS a good game. Too many games get sequels that merely try to capitalize on what made the first one great. Not enough changes and progression into new territory (with the same vibe, however, throughout). A DOTT2 would be a terrible terrible waste of gamers' and developers' time alike.

I want a Maniac Mansion 3. Take the series somewhere it hasn't been before, like how DOTT took MM to begin with. Just because DOTT was good doesn't mean repeating it will be just as good/even better. In fact, that's usually not the way that works for anything.

Any which way you slice it, not giving people the option to say "Nope, we don't want telltale to do this game" goes against the actual initial question, and removes logical response.

Your question
- Do you want a sequel to Day of the Tentacle to be done by Telltale?

Available answers
- Yes
- Ambiguous statement

When presented with these options, people who want to answer the question in the negative and register their disapproval have to say so in some other way; generally a short reply.

Answering this question is the entire point of this thread. If you don't want people to answer in the negative, don't post the question.

I am of the opinion that another game in the MM series would be cool, and a bit of fun, so I voted yes, because why not. If it's bad, I just won't buy it. Doesn't mean I don't want somebody to try. Might be the greatest game ever.

As long as it's Maniac Mansion 3 and not Day of the Tentacle 2.

Eh, I want the next logical step. Whatever that will be. It might be called Afternoon of the Spoon for all I know.

What if became a quirky series that experimented with a different form of gameplay each time? That'd be neat.

It would but it would be a hell of a lot more work than episodic games allow for. Maybe each season having different gameplay mechanics would work.

Telltale guys I don't want to offend you, you're great, but I believe the only company that should make DOTT 2 is Double Fine. The universe of DOTT would be trash without the twisted mind of Tim Schafer. I wouldn't even mind if it wasn't a pure adventure (some Psychonauts-styled platformer and action elements).

Yes, for a DOTT 2. But not for a MM3. He was, after all, not around when Ron made the original MM.

Day of the Tentacle wasn't a Tim Schafer game. It was a Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman game. The game's humor was a combination of both of their senses of humor (Dave and Tim were also the creators of the first two Monkey Island games, along with Ron Gilbert).

Dave Grossman is the design director of Telltale Games. So, a DoTT sequel would be in good hands if it were done by Telltale.

That said, a Maniac Mansion 3 should be in the hands of Ron Gilbert. Which puts it back at Double Fine.

I agree with this. I think it should be neither MM3 nor DOTT 2, but something absolutely original.

Okay, so what I am taking away from this thread is that, because I really enjoyed Day of the Tentacle, I have done myself a great disservice by not playing the original Maniac Mansion yet. It is now officially on my to-do list.

Depends. There's a weaker narrative in MM and its less funny. More twisted and the puzzle solving scheme is completely different. They're two different types of games.

What you should be taking away from this thread is that DOTT was a monumental step in a completely other direction for the series. So much so that everyone considers DOTT its own IP now when they shouldn't. As great as many think it is, DOTT wouldn't be anything without MM in the first place and it shouldn't be forgotten. Plus it's more meaningful to be more creative and come up with at least a new direction to move MM into rather than copying what DOTT did.

Specifically, the direction that LucasArts had gone with the rest of their adventure titles by the mid-90s. Aspects that made Maniac Mansion unique were stripped out entirely and all character and atmosphere was sappped from its sequel so that it could be more in-line with the rest of LucasArt's 90s adventure game output.
