Telltale Games

Hi,
I just finished playing episodes 1 and 2 multiple times. I really liked them both and was curious if anyone has any recommendations for similar games?

Particularly games where your choices effect the outcome. Not really into shooter games. The small amount this game had was great for me.

I also enjoyed the social aspect of this series and the character development. I don't play alot of monster/anime, this game was kind of an exception due to loving the comic book/TV series.

I apologize if a similar thread was already created.

So anyway, any suggestions or ideas?

I"m looking for such games myself.
Mostly I can think of RPG's but even they are not as good as they pretend.

In Bioware's KOTOR series for example it's basically whether you will choice the bad or good choice. Anything else does not matter. Most games are like that or the way where by asking you only learn information but you don't really respond.

The only 2 games that have a better dialog systems are Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and The Witcher 1 & 2.

I really hope that Telltale will start a new genre with this TWD game. Hope more games like this one will emerge. I would personally love to see some Lord of the Flies/Lost survivor style with this dialog and story-telling system.

Alan Wake, doesn't have to do allot with zombie's but is one hell of a scary game.
And the people consumed by darkness are scarier and allot more violent then zombie's.

Alan Wake is definately an awesome game but it doesn't really have anything in common with TWD. However the way Alan narrates the story is just... beyond awesome!

Heavy Rain to some extent is similar but no as much so as say Mass Effect

Alpha Protocol is another game you might like to look at. It's RPG shooter and with several different endings where you determine the outcome.

Heavy Rain is a must. Telltale clearly drew some influence from it when making The Walking Dead. You might also like LA Noire.

What else...well, I guess any WRPG fits the bill. The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, KOTOR, Mass Eff...wait, scratch that last one.

Deus Ex has a lot of focus on choice too. You said you didn't like shooter games, though, and while Deus Ex is more RPG than FPS, there's still a lot of FPS elements to it. If you do get it, though, remember this: The original and Human Revolution are good, but avoid Invisible War like the plague.

You might also want to try some visual novels. They're kind of light on gameplay (in fact, whether they count as games at all is debatable), but if you want your choices to affect the story I'd say they're worth a shot.

Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit in Europe).

L.A Noire

I didn't play Heavy Rain but I've always wanted to play. I would suggest it too.

Heavy Rain most definitely. It's really the only other game that's a choose your own adventure and not just a linear story with a morality system.

Mass Effect more similar to the walking dead than Heavy Rain? I think you've got that badly the wrong way around.

RPG's don't really work I think. They focus is on collecting gear and stuff not the choices. There was a time when I used to enjoy playing games that had gameplay 50 hours + but that time is gone now

Let's all pray that from now on Telltale will make games like TWD

There's only one other game I know of where your choices actually affect the course of events (ME doesn't count, and I haven't heard of heavy rain so can't comment on that). That game is Gothic III.

Gothic III is quite a traditional RPG with 50+ hours of gameplay, closely comparable to TES: Oblivion, and nowhere near as story-driven as for example Mass Effect. It has, however, 3 distinctly different endings, and is filled with conflicting quests; completing one will eliminate the option of completing the other and will often have major consequences, as well as affecting your relations with the different factions in the game. Thus your choices will shape the game world, and with it being an open-world RPG, you can always return to see how.

However, the game does have a number of serious issues. It's very buggy by default, and the reliability is still below average even after applying all available fixes and patches. It also doesn't utilize loading screens for different areas, causing the performance lag to be a bit unreasonable taking into consideration the graphical quality and detailing. Also, the combat difficulty is dumbed down immensely from the prequel Gothic II, and both the expansion Forsaken Gods and the sequel Gothic IV: Arcania are simply awful.

If you don't put huge weight on the part about decisions and choices, a better bet would be Gothic II with the Night of the Raven expansion. Everything in the game is completely hand-made and the quality beats Gothic III in all aspects apart from the graphical one. The downside is you only have one possible ending, but you do get to choose between 3 distinctly different paths.

Vampires the Masquerade: Bloodlines has like 4+ ending and a lot of different ways to play it. Check it out, it's one of the best

Well a lot of more of your decisions effect that game in ME than Heavy Rain. For instance The bald guy in the Lauren's apartment, it doesn't matter if you fight him or not, she still comes to Scott the next day. The therapist interrogation, if you let Blake beat him or stop him, he still tells you the information. There are lot of other examples too. To me more of the ME things you choose affect the game than those in Heavy Rain do. I do love Heavy Rain though, amazing game was a huge fan of Indigo Prophecy as well

Joking aside, Indigo Prophecy was great, though really limited and the story fell apart just before act three. Heavy Rain was better, but I think I have problems with the characters David Cage makes.

Telltale is doing far better work with the concepts, plus the women they write don't blindly run into danger then make you hit complex button combinations to keep them from getting themselves killed.

Indigo Prophecy is a good recommendation because it is a good story with quick-time events like TWD. Dragon Age: Origins has a good focus on character interaction between party members. Vampire Bloodlines is a very good game with only a small focus on FPS combat. Alan Wake is not a bad game, but there aren't any decisions to make and it is combat heavy, so you may be disappointed.
