A few things to check.
First, make sure there's no prefs.prop in your steam folder. Start your game and see if you can see the stats from Episodes 1 and 2. If you can, then you need to remove prefs.prop from the default subfolder under steamapps.
Then start a new game. Play through to autosave. Restart the game and make sure there's still a save file. If there is, it means a save folder exists on your computer and you need to find it.
Search for either "syncfs" or "the walking dead" but not both at the same tmie.
Look for the "The Walking Dead" folder with more save_##.save files and remove everything from the "the walking dead" folder with fewer but newer save_##.save files. Copy all of the older files + folders into the now empty "the walking dead" folder.
Restart The Walking Dead.
