Default Episode 3 Loading Issue

Whenever I attempt to continue into episode 3, the game loads into a black screen.

Now I have a cursor which I can move (clicking does nothing), and I can hear explosions, choppers doing flybys, and moaning walkers, but that's it. Game never progresses beyond this black screen and I have to alt+TAB out as it will not respond to keyboard inputs.

This problem isn't an occasional issue, it happens every time I try to play E3. The game is quite literally broken and unplayable.

Anyone else have this issue? How did you solve it?

EDIT: I have the steam version, if that makes a difference.
