Spoilers! The Herd

If the train is drawing the herd of walkers to Savannah, couldn't Lee just put the train in reverse when they get there, then jump out, and draw the walkers back into the opposite direction?

I don't think they have any idea what a herd is.

He could do that but then they would lose their safest mode of transportation.

The should, they barely escaped from the herd at the train station.

It might be the safest, but it's not very useful. It only goes from Macon to Savannah. I doubt they are planning to use the train again once they get to Savannah.

No, there's a difference. The herd is not just a large group zombies.

It's a HUGE group of zombies that never stops moving. The first walker start walking at some direction and the other follow. More and more join long after the first walker has forgotten why he walked that way in the first place, but even he does it because the rest are.

They do not know about that. They probably think once they lose sight of them they'll just stop. The herd never stops!

Aye you're probably right. I was thinking that the train was a great way to travel in a large group safely because rail lines are everywhere. Surely they would have been able to connect to a larger line but I get your point.

Savvanah looked almost untouched when we arrived. In fact, I had a fool's hope that it had somehow held out against the walkers and was secure. What happens when the herd hits Savvanah? That might be the cliffnager at the end of EP4 :P

They don't know how herds work, at least. I'd like one of them to think about it more.

Herd: one zombie hears something and follows it. It gathers more zombies moving in the same direction, no longer following a sound. Eventually a huge cluster forms. You fire a gun. Two thousand zombies turn as one and roam your way.

I find it odd that a herd was following the train and caught up to it that quickly and if it wasn't originally following the train, you'd think the train would have gone through it on route.

That herd could have been nearby or something. It likely didn't travel down the railway path for all of it's existence. Was prolly drawn by the commotion of our survivors

So y'all are saying that this "herd" will continue following them no matter what even after loosing sight of them?

I think if it hears another loud sound, they'll be off after that. Zombies have a short attention span, look at the walkers going after Lee in the episode. He is safe as soon as he jumps over the fence.

Huh. The horde, plus the train, and so on. That actually makes sense as to why the gasoline tanker opted not to explode. That would have taken out a majority of the zombies. If that happened, what would they face at the end of episode five?

Unless the train tracks curved while out of hearing distance, that is the safest bet..

Was the map shown a straight path? If so, you've still got a herd gathering and headed for the coast. Even if there is a way to blow up that patch we saw, there's still gonna be another larger horde.

The group of zombies in episode 3 happened pretty quickly. I'd have to explain it as being a cluster that had been nearby and came to the stopped train. A herd is larger: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...b/b0/Horde.jpg
