Default Your Top 5 Video Game Endings

Ok the title says it all but since this is a Video Game Endings Thread that means if you want to go more into detail about them you need to use spoiler tags!!! . Also its fine to talk about endings and Endings you didnt like.

Mine:

5. Uncharted 3

4.Infamous 2 Good Ending

3.Tales Of Monkey Island

2.Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time

1. Jak 3 i don't know why i like this ending so much but it seems like it's because i think that it shows how far Jak & Daxter has come showing that they will not leave each other kind of like Sam & Max How During their Adventures they are never apart unless they are forced. and i just think it ended the trilogy nicely but i still hope for a Jak 4

Easy. More famous a title is, better the ending it has. Haven't you heard?

No, he's not serious. Three of those are mainstream shooters, and Dashing likes original ideas.

Also, Monkey Island 2 isn't on his list.

http://gengame.net/2012/02/the-top-5...-edition-poll/

Earlier today Guinness World Records published the top 50 Greatest Video Game Endings from their 2012 Gamers Edition Poll. These top 50 game endings were voted on by 13,519 “fans of gaming.” Coming in at number one is none other than Call of Duty 7: Black Ops. Number two is Halo: Reach followed by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time at number three. You can find the full list at the end of this article.

This list is no doubt going to cause some hot debates among gamers everywhere, not helped by the fact that the topic is subjective in the first place. There are certainly a few points of contention with this list the most glaring of which is that 13,000 is an extremely small number of voters. The second biggest issue with the list is the fact that some of the games on the list don’t even really have stories. True, that doesn’t mean the endings aren’t satisfying, but does “Mario/Sonic/Cloud saved the Princess/Animals/World” really qualify as a great ending, let alone part of the top 50 greatest? Finally, is Guinness World Records really the right organization to make this list?

5. Metroid Prime (1 and 3)
I'm lumping these two together under one entry because they sort of tie together. In Metroid Prime, just that short clip of a hand bursting from the remains of Metroid Prime, showing that something went wrong and things aren't over just yet, was an incredible teaser that I still love. And in Metroid Prime 3, I really loved the way the series culminated with Samus going to Phaaze, the source of all the trouble in the last three games, and finally eliminating her doppelganger. Then on top of that, I really enjoyed the sequence where she returned to Elysia to reflect. I thought it was simple, but effective. Metroid Prime 2's ending was pretty decent as well, with the big fight with a deteriorating Dark Samus and the Luminoth all waking up, but it just doesn't have the impact of the other two. Also, Zero Suit Samus looked creepy as all hell in Metroid Prime 2's 100% ending.

4. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
You guys really didn't think I would make a list without including a Kingdom Hearts game, did you? Throughout the game, you pretty much know where things are going, but it still blew me away to actually see how everything played out and where everyone ended up.

3. Assassin's Creed II
As much as the end of Gemini Rue had me glued to my seat, wanting to reach the ending, that's how bad the ending of Assassin's Creed II left me wanting the next game. It pretty much blew my mind when Ezio finally reached his goal, only for the hologram to ignore him and speak to Desmond, knowing that he would be listening in on Ezio's memories over 500 years later. And to cap it all off, Desmond's response was perfect. "What the fuck?!"

2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
I've always loved the story of Majora's Mask, so naturally, it has my favorite ending of the series. Granted, I've never seen what the ending is like if you don't complete the Bomber's Notebook, but in the ending where you do, I love seeing all of the game's plot threads resolved, the end result of every single person you helped during the game.

1. Gemini Rue
That's right. After going through the list of every game I've ever played, choosing my favorite endings, and weighing them against each other, I decided that my favorite video game ending is from an indie game. I admit, as the game came closer to the reveal, I began to guess that Sayuri and Epsilon Five were same person, but I didn't realize that Delta Six and Azriel were the same person until the last second, and it left me reeling. By that point, even though I had no business still being awake, I couldn't leave my computer until I had finished that game.

Honorable Mention: Tales of Monkey Island, Episode 4: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood
If it wasn't for this ending, I probably wouldn't be posting on this forum right now. This is the one case where I can honestly say that I've made a ton of friends just because the ending of a game was so intense, I just had to talk to somebody about it, and I came to these forums to do that.

Oh yes. This is the most heartbreaking part when Guybrush gets mortally wounded by LeChuck and dies in the arms of his heartbroken Elaine! It still brings me to tears!

I have no idea what I would choose to answer this. I have not finished a lot of my games and most of them had horrible or disappointing endings.

I guess Deus Ex would be on the list, then of course Monkey Island 2.
Two indies would be on it at least: Gemini Rue and Super Meat Boy (Dark World Ending).
Last choice: Beyond Good & Evil.

Are we talking about end of the game scenarios like final bosses/challenges or just solely the story aftermath?

No idea. I forgot a lot of the impact older games had on me at the time. MI2 is up there. I remember loving the ending of Super Metroid, but that could've just been the satisfaction of beating a long-ass maze game. More recent favourites have been the Portals, R&C:ACIT, even Mafia II because it wasn't the typical GTA God ending.

My most favorite videogame ending must be Red Dead Redemption. It's weird that although the developer is Rockstar Games, it doesn't have the GTA God ending either.

Suikoden II - This game just rocked. Politically intriguing, with a lengthy tale of politics between two grand governments setting the stage for war, it also focused on the tale of two best friends split on both sides of the combat. Leaders of their respective nations and forced to stare each other down to the death, the reward for gathering the 108 Stars of Destiny was the chance to see them have a chance to reunite, departing from the main stage of politics and history, to live out their lives in peace.

Crono Trigger - Once upon a time I was an an incredibly sensitive kid, maybe too sensitive. Crono Trigger hit a sweet, sentimental spot with me. The game itself was something I'd never experienced before, a sci fi RPG as much as a fantasy one with insanely creative elements. After the death of the protagonist and all the work to get him back, that final scene with the two innocent loves flying into the sky on balloons with their theme playing in the background was just touching.

Final Fantasy 6 - Had one of the single most epic endings of all time. I think that ending went 30 minutes, with a 15 minute montage of all the main characters with their themes mixed. After such a long, challenging and deep RPG, to end it with so much bravado and triumph was only fitting. I consider this game to be a masterpiece.

Portal - It's hard to explain what an impact Portal's minimalist approach had on me. It's so short that the entire game... I probably played through in a day. I like star. I like questioning. I remember the endings of THX 1138, Blade Runner, Metropolis, Solaris, Akira, 1984, A Brave New World as some of the best I'd ever seen or read and, since I consider this world to be inherently harsh and often meaningless, with no easy answers, I find endings that do not provide easy answers to be occasionally the most appealing to me, or at least the most intellectually stimulating. Portal's ending was about more than the end, but about all that was left unstated. It gave no real answers, provided little in background, and left you with a character, possibly dead, victim to a cold laboratory to which there seemed to be no other survivors. The ending is the game and the game is the ending, and it was one of the most intriguing I'd ever played.

Metal Gear Solid - The original MGS is still the best, in my mind. MGS Snake Eater is close, but little compares to me to seeing the humanization of Snake and his relationship to Meryl and Otacon over the course of the game. The closing scene, and the emphasis on life and the appeal to people to enjoy living their lives, was a triumph after seeing so much of a character defined by death. Unfortunately, future games in the series pandered too much in sci fi babble and war jargon (both of which have been done better many times), rather than emphasizing the importance of the character's transition.
