Yeah, you're right, but they're by other studios and aren't connected. Hulk's movie rights are owned by Marvel though, and that's what I was referring to.

What about the Black Widow movie?

Isn't that supposed to be happening during one of these years?

Don't think they're doing one now. Which is all manner of stupid.

Bump!

New casting news for the show. We got these guys:

That's Elizabeth Henstridge (as science whiz Agent Gemma Simmons) and Ian De Caestecker (as technology guru Agent Leo Fitz), neither of whom I've heard of. They'll be joining Clark Gregg and Ming-Na.

Oh yeah. Ming-Na's in this thing too. Didn't you know that? Gah, get with the times.

They need to make Planet Hulk then make Avengers 3 adapt World War Hulk.

If they're going to adopt any Hulk storyline, I want Visionaries. That one is, in my opinion, the best as far as defining the character of Banner.

I mean, this is the storyline that features Banner just losing his shit over inconsequential things and Betty kinda realizing that this is not the man she married.

Like this part:

Betty: "Bruce, what was that all about? Why are you being like this?"
Banner: "Because I've decided that I'm tired of the world doing whatever it wants to me and mine. I would think, Betty, that you of all people would appreciate that."
Betty: "I appreciate that if you don't get a good few hours of sleep, you're going to go crazy!"
Banner: "Betty... sweetheart... my dearest love... You're talking to a man who presently has three personalities. What makes you think I'm not crazy now?"

I can totally see Ruffalo doing a scene like this.

I just want WWH for an Avengers story because it is a story that has the potential to showcase the Avengers, by the third movie an established, non-volatile team, getting truly and utterly torn apart.

Hulk wants the men who sent him to space in exile and destroyed the new home he made for himself, and he's angrier and more powerful than he's ever been in his entire life, and the team has to deal with the consequences of their actions and the possible destruction of their friend because of a mistake they made.

It's not actually the Avengers in the original story, but it would work. Whedon wants a deeply personal story for two, but I don't see how they could adapt this without doing Planet Hulk unless they heavily edit it, so...eh. The main issue is- I don't think you'd see much of Banner in that story.

I'd love to see them do some version of Civil War for Avengers 3, but they'd have to start introducing more of the fringe, vigilante heroes first.

I was starting to see the beginnings of the Civil War mentality in Avengers by the end. I mean, we had all those interviews with people wanting to know who these mysterious people were and saying that they didn't feel safe and stuff. I don't even see it as a problem that we haven't introduced a lot of minor vigilante heroes so far. All it takes is a few scenes with some cameos of lesser known heroes beating up people who may or may not deserve to be beaten up to set the tone. It could be spread across a few of the bigger movies.

Though I wouldn't really want Civil War as it was portrayed in the comics. It was kinda heavy handed. There's a different dynamic in the movies, of course so it could work.

True. And I agree that it would be great if they themed the lead-up films of Phase 3 around it, showing how each hero copes with the problem before the big Civil War smack down. I do think the roster needs to be increased at least a little bit, though, otherwise it's, what, 3 on 3?

I also think that Cap and Tony should switch roles in the films. I know in the comics they didn't want them to pick the expected side of the conflict but I wouldn't buy the film version of Cap going renegade and the film version of Tony siding with the government. I barely bought it from the books. ...ok, maybe I'd buy it from Cap - registration can't sit well with a guy who fought Nazis - but definitely not Tony.

Actually, Tony siding with the government isn't a huge leap in logic. I mean, he's a contractor for them (kinda) and everyone already knows that he's Iron Man, so he doesn't have anything to lose. He only needs an extra push, such as something disastrous happening due to unregistered superheroes, and he'd be signing up.

Meanwhile, we've already established that Cap's faith in authority is shaken in Avengers and it will probably be destabilized even more in his solo movie. Depending on how they proceed with that, we might have more reason to accept that he would be a firm believer in the idea that superheroes can't work properly if people know who they are. Widow and Hawkeye would probably also not want their identities revealed... but then again, they might not be required to register, what with having no superpowers.

As for the others, I honestly don't think they'd care. I can't remember whether or not Thor had any opinion whatsoever and I'm pretty sure that Banner didn't even know it was going on until after it was over. But if we added Spiderman and Ant-Man, who have movies, and maybe a few X-Men and some minor heroes, I think it would work out fairly well.

I think Thor was dead during Civil War. Or as dead as Marvel superheroes ever get, at least. Sadly Spidey and the X-Men are still owned by other studios so I don't think we'd ever see a crossover with them. They need to hurry up and make that Ant Man movie though.

It would definitely take a few movies worth of set up, and I think the seeds were planted in The Avengers. I think it'd be a good epic capper to Phase 3.

Well, we'll have to see what direction the next few solo films take us in as well as where the TV show goes. I also wouldn't mind a completely new storyline that's completely separate from established Marvel ones.

For instance, I always liked A.I.M. as a villainous organization (though M.O.D.O.K has always been ridiculous) and I think if they were handled correctly, they could perhaps be one of the most terrifying opponents. I mean, a coalition of incredibly smart evil people. They could cause far more havoc than they ever did in the comics.

Last weekend got to see the special features of The Avengers, and if the Marvel One-Shot Item 47 is any indication of the S.H.I.E.L.D. series, then count me in.

I just saw the one-shots from the end of Thor and Captain America. They were pretty awesome as well.

The Captain America one involved Coulson defeating two armed gunmen with a bag of flour. I'm not even joking.

I'm kinda surprised that none of the cast from Item 47 will be in the TV show (at least I haven't seen any of them announced). That short really seemed like it was a set up for a show.
