I would assume about a week before Lee gets in the accident or else there wouldn't have been so many of them.

I don't know if it really matters as far as the time when it started, I would like to know more about the beginning and how it spread without getting crushed by the military/cops/locals like in the original "Night of the Living Dead" at the end of the movie. Although eventually it did progress, the stoppage was only temporary.

I would like to see the original "patient zero" and see how it gets out of control, as well as an explanation as to why all living humans are infected, was it a virus or something mystical?

That is what I was wondering, how everyone could become suddenly infected, it seems a little weird, but I guess it is just there to keep us guessing.

You will never get that explanation. Kirkman said we will probably never find out how the virus came about.

In this world no matter what happens, the dead shall rise. Hmm, sounds like something out the book of revelations. Not that i'm religious or anything.

Everyone was just going on about their day when all of a sudden without warning comes instantaneous, widespread, global "infection"?

from my understanding:
the zombie disease is already inside you.
you die anyway possible without the brain dieing then you comeback.
the bite only makes a sickness that makes the disease strong enough to kill you.

well according to the tapes in ep 4 October 10th is 83 days since the outbreak. Working backwards, that means it started on July 20th.

I had assumed that the zombie virus is airborne, carried by the zombies, and you contract it by getting too close to one. If somebody were to lock themselves up and never get near a walker, they wouldn't come back if they were to die.

Probably the year that Issue #1 came out? That's the onyl way we'll eer know, unless RK gives us an exact date (which is about as unlikely as them finding a cure at some point).

Or it could have been a virus or something like one released into the water supply as a military or government experiment? Or maybe they thought it was an inoculation against a certain disease to only go very bad?

Just ideas....I personally don't care if I ever know how or why it started, but it would be cool if it was released.

At the start of episode 2 it says "3 months later" and it seems that it had been going on for a few days before the game starts and at least a few days for Ben to be giving the bandits supplies.

Meh, not true.

Did you know you can even make your own Antibiotic? Thinks like Grape Seed Extract, Olive Leaf Extract, Tea Tree Oil, Garlic, etc, all have microbial properties.

Tea Tree Oil is great for cuts and other wounds.

Also, food doesn't just come from McDonalds. Clean water would be another issue, but that is what boiling is for.

Survival IMO relies more on Geography and skill sets than anything else in this universe.

It is honestly rather amazing that Herschel seems to know none of this, but I guess that is the limitation of Kirkman.
