Smile Phones!

Hey guys,

I'm currently in the stage of choosing a new phone, but HOTdamn, there's a lot of choices out there.
Right now, I'm rocking an (almost ancient) iPhone 3G, which has seen better days. Yes, I am an Apple fanboy, have been for quite some time, but I have no problems with Android or even the new Windows Mobile OS.
So I'm not asking to start a flamewar about which system is better, just some hints / tips / etc. What phone are you guys using, what would you recommend, why, etc.

I want a Galaxy SII.

Why not a SIII?

HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICES!!!?!?!

If I could get a cheap S2 I would be happy. (I think I would like Android over iOS anyday (not saying my 3G is bad, but I like to tinker with my devices))

Money isn't really an object right now, when it comes to my new phone, so the Galaxy s3 is also part of the options, but there are so many pros and cons, I just don't know anymore.
A lot of people tell me to get an HTC instead of one of the Samsung phones. Any experience with those?
What about the Nokia Lumia 900? I know it's a Windows OS, but Nokia has been making some really decent phones for quite some time now.

I've got an HTC Sensation and I'm very satisfied with it except for the battery. Before I upgraded to ICS I got a couple of days worth of use out of it with regular usage and minimal wifi usage. With a lot of web browsing I'd easily get through the day with nightly recharging. After upgrading it would suddenly shut down completely several times a day after starting applications. Googling the problem I found out it's a pretty common problem with the Sensation and heavy power usage due to the battery not fitting the phone entirely. Luckily it's easily fixed by wedging some paper above the upper right corner of the phone. I'm not able to get through the day without recharging after the ICS upgrade though.

Still, I'm overall pretty satisfied with the phone. It's got a solid build and can take a lot of beating.

Contrasting Opinion: I've only tried one HTC phone, and that was the Wildfire. It found it slow, cumbersome and a right pain to use. Even though it was (and is) twice as powerful as my current phone, and running a better OS, I refused a free upgrade (My mothers old phone) to it.

I would say go for a Galaxy S2/S3/nexus. They are the most popular android phones, and as such have the best developer support. Games are more likely to work correctly on those devices than on other android phones.

I have a HTC Wildfire myself, and it's decent, but not spectacular. I can do basic web browsing with it, but if you want to run any apps on it that are even slightly advanced, definitely get a different (i.e. better) model. I wouldn't write off HTC just yet though, since the Wildfire is their basic model, and I'm sure the more expensive ones will give you more bang for your buck.

Any sense waiting for the iPhone 5? Just to know what the competition is for these other phones?
There are multiple articles out there that say the iPhone 5 will completely destroy the S3 specs, but than again, they are rumours.

The only thing I know for certain about the iPhone 5 is:

1. Larger screen

2. Smaller dock

So old phone covers and docking apparati (alarm clocks, chargers, etc) won't work with it.

HTC Sense.

A couple years old at this point. I really like it. I cleaned up the running programs to save the battery. I don't run blue tooth or play games on it. Battery lasts days(5-6 when I first got it, 3-4 now) with moderate app use and light browsing(very few phone calls). Fairly rugged design as I bang it around a bit at work and it only has a very small chip in the screen that you cant even see. I'm pleased but I may go the iRoute next contract just for a change. We'll see, I've got a year to decide.

I have a Samsung Alias II. No internet, no apps, no touch screen. It makes calls and texts.

BUT.

It flips two ways.

I got a Galaxy S2 on Tuesday, which is cool, it's very very slick to use and rivals Apples stuff if not surpasses it in certain areas. Before I had the catchy named Xperia x10 Mini Pro which is also very cool and had a slide out keyboard to boot which was awesome. Even with a fancy keyboard app touchscreen typing's a tough transition for me.

I don't do Apple because i'm edgy.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy myself, and I'm very satisfied with it. Never had any problems with Samsung phones period. Also Android phones far exceed Apple in every way possible. Don't ever get iPhone, seriously, it's utter crap.
