The diamond store guy was armed, but it can be expected when securing massive amounts of value.

There were tons of parallels. The last time we control Lee walking he's limping, just like the first time. He's in handcuffs at the beginning and end. He gives Clementine a weapon when she's caught by the foot, just like she gives you one when you are. Etc, etc (:

I noticed that was an option but never tried it. What happens?

^ Nothing. She handcuffs the walker but he attacks anyway (simply ripps his arm off).

Personally I handcuffed myself because the game obviously wanted me to by zooming on my hand and the heater.
