Walking Dead on steam does not start

I have Walking Dead on Steam and when I go to play it nothing happens. Going to the folder and doubling clicking WalkingDead101.exe and watching the taskmanger I can see it appear then leave. No error message appears just gone.

I have deleted the game and re-downloaded, verify integrity of the game all with no luck.

I am running windows 8.

edit: Sorry hit submit before adding this. This is a new purchase (steam sale) so I have never played the game before.

Do you have an xbox 360 controller?

Do you have, in the "Device Manager", under "System Devices", the device "High Definition Audio Controller" disabled? I noticed that if you have that disable the game will show the behavior you're describing.

My game was working fine, but I was having some performance problems, OS problems, and some people said that disabling that may fix it, so I disabled it and game did to me what it did to you. I enabled it again and the game worked well again.

I got it to work by putting the DLL listed in the root game directory from this thread;
