Default CSI 3 Can't get paint brushes in case 1

I have started this game 4 times. According to walkthrus I have researched, I am supposed to get a can of brushes from the artist but no matter what I do I am not getting the option to ask for them. Some walkthrus say that I should use the comparison microscope to compare the fiber found on the victim to 5 other samples but I don't know where to get them from. Am I missing something obvious?

I haven't played any CSI game, but I know from experience in adventure games that certain items can be obtained only after making your character aware of the possibility.

In this case, can you see a painting or some brushes? If so, try clicking on it and attempt to talk to the related character (or maybe a character unrelated that is just there) after that, or to get directly the item (Clicking on it again perhaps)

If you can't see a related item, it just means that you should search elsewhere or complete another task/puzzle first.

It sounds like you need to run a comparison on the microscope first. Here's how:

Once you have the hair fiber from the victim displayed in the microscope, there will be 3-5 "possible match results" that appear on top of the screen. Drag those results into the other viewing pane so that you can see them side by side. Then, click "Confirm match." Once you do this, it will give you information about the fiber which will lead you to why you'd ask for paint brushes from the artist.

Good luck!
