Default I just don't get it...

Most of us on here have heard of the "walkingdead101.exe" error. The question is as to who is responsible: Telltale or Steam? If Telltale, I really don't get it. You guys made an adventure game--AN ADVENTURE GAME. A game, the production of which should be relatively simple compared to bigger, more well-known titles by virtue of what it is.

You too, must adventure through your files, updating and solving puzzles in order to access The Walking Dead:The Game, and claim your reward for your perilous journey.Only then, will you be able to play.

Jokes aside. Try updating the drivers for your graphics card, processors and DirectX,and trying to run the game as "Administrator". Also make sure that you meet the minimum system requirements.
If all that fails, just try to re-install your game.

There is no reason why an adventure game should have less compatibility issues than any other game.

It's most likely the opposite, since adventure game companies usually have less budget than big game studios, they have to rely on self developed, less mature game engines and tools. They also have less money available for testing on different system configurations.

Yeah, Telltale support seems rather weak. I personally didn't have any problems whatsoever but a friend of mine had trouble with savefiles remembering his choices and I tried to help him and browsed quite some time... and even visited many threads of the supportforum but the support there seemed rather lackluster, close to none.

Regarding your problem I will copy paste a compilation of what I found within 5 minutes:

First, make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game. This is important. If you don't meet the minimum requirements, there may be little if anything we will be able to do to troubleshoot your issue. Also make sure that all your drivers are up to date. Do this before trying anything else.

Try rebooting your system.

If you're using Steam, verify the integrity of the game cache. If you're not sure how to do this, the link below will walk you through it.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2037-QEUH-3335

Try right-clicking game's executable*, which is WalkingDead101.exe, and then click Run As Adminstrator.

If it's still not working, right-click the game's executable, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and then check the options to run in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME. Also check the option to disable desktop composition.

If it's still not working try to unplug any USB devices (such as gamepad etc.)

Or try further Game Crashing Troubleshooting:

*Mine is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead

Good Luck.
