Default Mac Version - Why so many bugs?

Let me first say that this game is great. The story and characters are fantastic. In fact, they are all that is keeping me playing at this point.

I bought all 5 episodes through steam and am playing on a 2010 Macbook Pro. I've got Snow Leopard as an OS, 4 GBs of Ram, and the dedicated Nvidia card on. Not a hell of a rig (what mac is?), but enough to play this game.

The game runs absolutely fine on 1440X900 on high or low settings, but is subject to constant freezing whenever it autosaves. At EVERY autosave point in the game, it locks up for 20-30 seconds before continuing. This completely ruins the suspense and tension of any action scene. The music continues, but the screen remains static. There is no way to turn off autosaving either.

Worse, perhaps, is that the game crashes about every hour. Sometimes, it does not record autosave data at all. I now have to do almost all of episode 4 over again because it decided to crash and revert me to an autosave at the end of episode 3.

I would hope that Telltale reads their own forums and have recognized that there is a serious issue with the Mac version of their game. Reviews, both from professionals and customers, have pointed out numerous times that this version has significant technical issues. I would have hoped that by now, by episode 5, there would have been an update.

Been thinking about doing that as well, but won't I lose my save file if I uninstall like that?

I tried launching the game on another (Mac) computer. It's even worse. The game quits right after I try playing a chapter from the game.

I'm having the same problems on my machine (mid 2012 macbook pro). The game is playable, for sure, but as John said, the flow of the game is SEVERELY disrupted by the autosaves. I'm going to try a clean install...

Can you all please post your system information?
Maybe there's something in common with your Macs.

System Information
Open a terminal (e.g. by typing terminal into spotlight).
Run the system profiler to copy selected system information to the clipboard, by copying the command line below into the terminal and pressing enter:

system_profiler -detailLevel mini SPHardwareDataType SPSoftwareDataType SPDisplaysDataType SPAudioDataType | pbcopy

Now start a new reply to this post, and paste the clipboard into it, by pressing Command + V.

DjNB and the rest:
Unfortunately my system information includes a name I'd rather not share or go through the trouble of deleting from every line of code, so I'll give you the drastically simplified version.
Macbook Pro: 13-inch, Mid 2012
Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C3006)

I read a post on a separate thread which recommended disabling antialiasing as an easy fix to a variety of graphical issues on Macs.
I did and it worked.
I rewound and replayed the game from the beginning of chapter 1 without a hitch.
I hope this fix works for others!

Having an extremely frustrating time here as well. Game often hangs and eventually crashes at loading screens - about halfway into Episode 2 and it's already happened over 10 times (which is unacceptable IMO).

Basic specs of my machine:

MacBook Pro: 15-inch, Mid 2012 (Retina)
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB + NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Software: OS X 10.8.2 (12C3012)

Game Settings all at max (HIGH or ON) save for resolution, which I've got at 1024 x 768.

Any suggestions for how I can stop this from happening?

Try turning Antialiasing off. There is little noticeable reduction in graphical quality and it solved my problems!

My HDD failed, and I had it replaced. My game save (I had played through Episode 3) was nowhere to be found in the cloud. No big deal, I thought. I'll have fun playing through it again. Now when I start, none of the subtitles, or suggestion titles appear. They're just warbled blocks of pixels (kind of like on a Donkey Kong Kill Screen). It also freezes now, as I try to play through it. I uninstalled Steam altogether, and the game didn't freeze at the same point it has been, but now is freezing at a new spot, right as Clementine and I are trying to leave her house.

This is what I'm running on:
Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

Edit: I am also running everything as low as possible, except my resolution, which is native for my display.

I had no problems whatsoever before my HDD went down, so I'm kind of bummed, now.

For the text issue at least, you can fix it by switching out of full-screen and then switching back. Super lame, but it does work, at least.

What worked for me is to turn off my internet connection and play the game in offline mode. Now it works fine.
