The episode should be listed here as already purchased, and selecting it again should allow you to re-install Episode 1. Since you own the Season Pass, you will prompted to download 3 items, the Episode 1 demo, the unlock key, and the theme. Once installation is complete, you can reinstall the other episodes.
This issue has been reported by users who originally played Episode 1 for free as a PS+ member, then allowed their subscription to Plus to expire, which invalidated the unlock key. Even if the Season Pass was purchased, Episode 1 was still installed using a no longer valid unlock key, forcing a reinstall to continue playing.

I'm having the same problem. So I did exactly what you said to do. The only thing is I never let my PS+ Membership lapse and have been an active member for a few straight years now. Nevertheless I did exactly what you said. Deleted the game, then I searched for The Walking Dead on the PSN Store, Episode 1 is 4.99, Episodes 2-5 are free (except Episode 2 says I can't download it right now, whatever). And the season pass is 19.99. I don't want to buy it again, especially when I just have 1 episode left to go. What to do?
Little more story if you need it: I bought the season pass at around the release of the 3rd episode. When the 4th was released, I had no problem downloading and playing it. Now I tried to download the 5th and I can't even go down to the "GET" option on it. Instead I'm forced to redownload the 1st episode. The other seasons 2-4 say its "installed" but I can't play them obviously.
