Problems Launching S&M204

I purchased Sam and Max 204 on steam and whenever I launch the game it appears to maximize and minimize randomly, filling the screen with white and black flashes that continue until I end the program in the task manager. However, I can hear the opening screen sounds and have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice and the problem persists.

(PS. The image tests to keep out robots in the account registration and forum search are pretty finicky for me at least, with the ones for forum searches becoming unreadable to a human like myself sometimes! Not a big issue, but a bit of frustration piled on not being able to play my game.
