Default Mac version freezes after "rewind" attempt, can't play game at all now. Need refund!

To cut a long long story short, I've bullet-pointed my frustrating experience below.
  • Played through entire 5 episodes and thought fairly highly of the game (so far so good)
  • Tried to play again from episode 2, as my girlfriend had missed the last 4
  • I get warned that "rewinding" will overwrite my save data. Ok, no problem.
  • Then, my top-end Macbook Pro just gets stuck on black screen with walking dead arrow. I have to hold power button down and reset in order to get machine working again.
  • I make several attempts but it crashes each time.
  • Concede to my girlfriend that she will probably have to just play episode 1 again. So we sit through FOUR HOURS of already-played gameplay to get to episode 2 again.
  • Try to load episode 2 on second game slot. Get an identical warning about "rewinding" even though we haven't started Episode 2 yet. Then, no matter which option I select, the screen freezes again and I have to reset my machine. Every time.
  • I figure that my first save game is still confusing matters even though it is a completely separate game slot. so I delete EVERYTHING from that slot. I wipe MY entire walking dead game to allow her save to continue onto episode 2 without a hitch. Or so I think.
  • I try again. No joy. Same "rewind" warning, same screen freeze.. no access. Nothing.
  • It is suggested I uninstall the game and start again. Urm... you think we are going to sit through 4 hours of episode 1 again, a third time??? No way!
  • Unfortunately this doesn't end here, because of course I want to raise a complaint. It is 12.30am now... I started trying to make a complaint at 10.30pm... but Steam sent me on a mission round in circles until I finally got here.
  • EDIT…. Now the Telltale forums show "database error" and I have lost everything. Lucky I copy and pasted this entire thing first. Will post again whenever it comes back up.
  • I'm fuming. After deleting my save game, I can't even continue with series 2 when that is released and unless this is fixed, I am NOT sitting through 4 hours of episode 1 again.

Hope that gives you a clear picture of what is happening. It isn't on. I've seen plenty of complaints from Mac users about bugs. I did actually play through the game once here, albeit with very buggy mouse controls and a lot of unnecessary deaths as a result. But still, this has now become a joke and I'm red-faced with anger.

Please get back to me with a solution of how I can continue onto Episode 2 now without having to reinstall the game.

If that isn't possible, a refund would be the only legal option, having been sold a product that doesn't work as intended.

I look forward to a reply, Telltale.

Thanks

I have the same exact issue.

Recently purchased the game and went through all five episodes and enjoyed it, but now when attempting to play an entirely new game I get through Episode 1 and try moving onto Episode 2 but get a warning that "rewinding" will overwrite my saved data. I tried clicking Yes and No, but Macbook Pro goes black with walking dead arrow on the screen. I have to force quit.

Hope this thread gets an answer or a solution. very frustrating.

Its amazing how telltale will not even offer a response to all the issues we are having. This is literally the biggest waste of monye ive spent on a game in my life because I cannot save at all. Im just making sure to let people know of these issues before they purchase it and have the same problems we have. I visit quite a few gaming forums..

Its one thing for a game to have problems, its another for a game to have problems for this long and the developer to not even acknowledge them.

I'm guessing these games get a playthrough/test before they are released and if they found bugs or crashes they would fix these.
Even though there seem to be a lot of people with problems, there are still a lot of satisfied customers without problems as well. As long as these people are also out there, the software 'seems' to be bug-free.
I completely agree with you that it's just not done that Telltale doesn't even acknowledge users having problems, but if some people do have problems and other people don't, where do they begin? Fixing the problem from one user MAY cause trouble with the software of another user.

Still... it's weird that there are so many bugs found by players in a piece of software that is supposed to be tested and even won awards.

what a surprise, still no answer from Telltale. If you're going to put a product out there, then you need to stand behind it. If it's a Mac issue, then Telltale should never have offered a Mac version of the game. There's no way errors like this should go unnoticed before releasing it.

I have the same problem and I'm a PC/windows user... I don't think it has anything to do with the Mac version.

No, they're exactly the same versions and files. Apple computers are using Intel processors for a couple of years now. This means OS X can handle Windows DLL's easier. You're seeing more and more games coming to OS X. Steam, the excellent porting of Feral Interactive, etc.
This doesn't mean that the software reacts the same way on both operating systems though. For example, I bought Feral's Arkham City for OS X. It was really laggy and unplayable. Got a refund, and bought the Windows version, which runs smoothly on full HD. Even if it's the exact same computer.
There seem to be more calculations when running (original Windows native) games under OS X. It could be that this is where more problems are created under OS X.
But this can be disputed as well, since there are a lot of Windows problems reported as well and my version runs perfectly under OS X (after 6 very, very frustrating months...)
