The Walking Dead save bug (no prefs.prop)

First off, I've tried following this guide here:

Moving from episode 2 to 3 I had the issue of the game not finding my saves. However most of the solutions I've found online tell me to try this method, except my problem is that in the default folder in steamapps there was no prefs.prop and copying the other one over didn't solve anything. Looking at the save_#.save files in the Telltale folder it totally has my newer saves, I just can't access them. I've tried every solution that I've come across and haven't had any luck and the fact that cutscenes can't be skipped means for sure I won't be going back so if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. This is incredibly frustrating.
