game fails to load. black screen with chirping audio

anyway,

I can't find a solution that matches my problem.

my steam version of walking dead fails to load, all I get is a black screen but I can hear what sounds like birds chirping.

strangely; my monitor light blinks as it does when the computer is not powered on and I can alt tab once, if i go back to the game and alt tab twice, the computer crashes.

windows7 64, ati5850 and up to date with drivers.

any ideas?

That sounds like your monitor not liking the resolution the game is running in.
Please put the game in windowed mode by pressing Alt-Enter. You should then be able to adjust the resolution in-game.

Because of the crash though it might also be useful if your post your dxdiag info.

dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "dxdiag" and hit enter

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

alt and enter into window mode worked. I can now see the game.

I increased the very low default resolution and it looks like I can now run it full screen.

my native res is 2560x1440 if it's useful
