Default Why does Vernon ask.....

Why does Vernon ask you if we came in on the train? I've only been able to play it through once and that part still confuses me. Was it because he blams us for bringing a heard to Savannah? Thanks for your help!

Maybe because previously he didn't notice there was a train around, and now there was.

Because you can see the train, you can see thousands of walkers, trains are loud, and it can be assumed the loud train attracted thousand of walkers.

Not just assumed, but practically spoken outright in episode 5.
(Paraphrased slightly)
"There's thousands of 'em...
"They didn't follow us here, did they?"
"That's crazy. They don't track, they just...roam"
"Well that fuckin' train wasn't exactly discreet."

Since they didn't flood the streets until the end of episode 4, we can assume Vernon saw the massive herd shambling along the railroad tracks. Why he didn't tell us this....he's a two-timing jerk.

because a massive horde of zombies is coming from the railroads.

Which is kind of weird. Because Lee tells Christa+Omid that Katjaa+Doug have been dead for aprox. 2 hours. and they also drove the train after that. That means the zombies have taken a ridicilous long walk.

If we assume it was a slow-ass train like those old coal-trains it would go 50mph. (I assume the train they used was much faster but let's go for the slowest possible).
So the 2 hour ride until they met Christa/Omid they had traveled 100 miles. After that Omid and Christa hop onto the train and we continue driving it. Not sure for how long, let's say half an hour maybe? so that is 100+25 miles = 125 miles.

If you saw how slow those zombies are, they maybe run at max ~3mph. That means they need to walk for ~42 hours. And they are dumb as bread but can exactly figure out and remember to follow the rails for nearly 2 days straight? Something doesn't add up here. Maybe I am just giving it too much thought though.

In episode 3 Kenny says "We'll be barreling down the road at 40 miles per hour, i don't care about the noise." So it probably is one of the slower trains. I think it was mentioned in the comics, but the walkers don't remember to follow the tracks, they forget after a while and just keep going in the same direction they were. Also, every area the train passed probably brought them out of the woods constantly, so for all we know the herd might still be pouring into Savannah at the end of episode 5.

Also mentioned in the comics(IIRC), if the walkers see others going in a certain direction or even so much as accidentally touch something, they'll think they're going after food, and will follow them or repeat their actions.

I don't think he actually saw the herd, but he asked about the train and when they said they did arrive that way, I think he guessed that a load of walkers would come due to the noise of it. If there was a herd coming others in the group would have noticed on the bell tower, not to mention they would have came into the city way before Clementine got kidnapped.

no one else really looked, they were in kind of a hurry. I think he seen them, then instead of warning us about them. they packed up all their stuff and waited for an opportunity to steal the boat.

he might not have seen the zombies themselves. But remember the dust the horde kicked up in EP 5, I think he saw that.
