Default The Backloggery Thread

So I see several people like myself have a huge library of unfinished games.

And I KNOW we talk about it all the time.

So why not have these kind of discussions in its own thread.

Therefore, The Backloggery Thread was born.

Here's my Backloggery:

http://backloggery.com/retrovortex

As of the 11/11/11 its already quite outdated, I have over 500 games to beat now.
(I need to go back and update it soon)

As you can see, since I started my backloggery in July, I have beaten just 2 games:

Megaman X
Mario's Picross

I also completed Cave Story in September, but its not on the backloggery.

So thats 3. 3 games.

This. Is. Going. To. Be. Impossible!!

I mean look at the games I have on there.

I have BOTH Ghouls 'n' Ghosts AND Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts to beat.

And I can't even get past the first few levels of those! :X

But lets not get too defeatist. There is still time.

Anyone got any recommendations on what to play? I have difficulty deciding these days...

Play Monkey Island, of course! If ever in doubt, choose whichever has the most pirates.

This backloggery thingy seems quite interesting... now I must star my own.

Far far too much. It's borderline embarassing!

This should more or less be in order. There's a few number discrepancies from my personal Excel sheet, but I documented a few things a little differently, like compilations.

For me to have a backloggery.com page would be to ask me to regularly update it.

But I'm not going to do that. Certainly, I could make a concerted effort, but I know I would just forget and let it sit with the same status for ages.

Same here.

Also, my backlog is huge, and it would take me days to add them all. Hell, it took me days to make the Excel spreadsheet with all the games I own, and that's not even halfway done.

I would say that my ~350 game list took me about three hours to copy from my Excel sheet to my Backloggery. And I was just killing time while waiting for my dad to have me help him with a chore (and at some point while I was busy losing track of time an doing data entry, he decided to blow off the chore).

As for my Excel list, that took me a bit longer, but over a longer period of time, and not because it was time consuming to make the list, but because it was time consuming to make it do what I wanted.

The list gives me a running total of how many entries I have for each system, and I have a formula that takes the answers to "Beaten", "In Progress", "Disqualified", "100%able", "100%ing", and "100%ed", and determines whether to display the "Finished" column as "Yes", "No", "In Progress", or "N/A", so completion of all my games are judged on the same criteria.

I've been using Backloggery for about a year and a half, and find it very helpful in keeping track and focusing on finishing my old games. In that time I've gotten from about fifty-fifty finished/unfinished to around two thirds done.

And in the name of shameless self-promoting, let me point out that I made a cool little browser script for Chrome, Firefox and Opera that adds some extra features to the Backloggery site.

Here's some of what I have. Not even all my console games.
Then take my steam account and assume most of them are backlogged.
steamcommunity.com/id/elvenmonk
Then I've a lot of WiiWare, DSiWare, PS3 Games, Wii Games, 3DS games, DS games, PSN games, and such not listed. Not worth listing them all.

I changed my mind. I felt this might actually encourage me to finish some of the games I own that I've never even touched. The format of this list is still a bit of a work in progress (I think I need to make compilations of various PC games with expansions), but I think I have it all down for the most part.

I'm sticking with my Excel spreadsheet, it's just easier.

Also, of the over 600 games I have listed so far, I've completed around 150 of them. I have a lot of stuff to go through!

600 games? Wow. Talk about dedication to your hobby. (color me jealous, tbh)

Anyways, at least you have a spreadsheet to work off of. I didn't previously have anything for myself.

Also, I've updated my backloggery. It turns out that I was missing some Humble Bundle games that I had never downloaded or activated on Steam.

I really need to make one. However, every time I think about it, I realise that it'll mean going through the 200-300 retail games I own, jotting them down as I go along. It would take ages, and I could be completing a game on my backlog in the time taken.

What I would suggest is breaking up your time spent and do one console or PC download distributor at a time; and if you have a crap ton of Steam/GOG games, you might break them up by section.

Backloggery really is very fast to add/edit games. There are even a few fields that persist from one add form to the next when you're adding multiple games in a row ("Compilation" and "System" being two that I have encountered) so that you don't have to constantly change the "System" field to say "Steam" or have to change the Compilation field 7 times to say "Humble Indie Bundle #3."

I spent a few hours tonight making several much needed adjustments to my Excel sheet. And by adjustments, I mean I redid the thing on a new sheet. For the actual meat, the list itself, this mainly meant copying and pasting the old one into a new list that now has a separate sheet for each system.

On the back end of things however, this meant working out a new front sheet with far more statistical information...

...creating a little "widget" to display said information on each system's sheet, for all 19 systems (22 sheets, as PC is split into Steam, GOG, Telltale, and Other)...

...tweaking my main "finished" formula to add a new condition, "Not Owned", for borrowed games and future purchases...

...and another addition I probably shouldn't discuss on here.

That last one was the hardest, because to gather that information, I normally just count the "finished status" column, but I don't want the data on these games to be included with the rest, so I had to re-adapt my original criteria formula to function inside of a counting formula. I nearly gave up before I figured it out.

This doesn't mean I'm not liking the Backloggery. I just enjoy having a list that I have more control over the data on, and where I can edit individual entries while still being able to see the whole list.

This seems like an awesome idea.

Made my account, going to add games when I get home from work.

*Edit*
Now done adding my games, took a while but I am proud (don't know if this is actually something you can be proud of) to present, my backloggery.

Can someone help out a noob, I know you can add friends and an Avatar but I can't for the life of me work out how to do any of those things.

Any help would be appreciated.

*Edit* Nevermind the first question, I worked it out in the end.
But I still need help with the avatar.
