Default Ben making a bigger impact on the game

I feel like they made Ben a little too useless on the game. I think he would have made a much bigger impact on the player if he gives his life to save someone, but instead, Kenny gives his life FOR him. What are your thoughts? Do you think Ben should a went out as a "hero" or as a kid who screws everything up?

I would have loved to see him sacrificing himself to save the others, like distracting a herd or something but i guess that may have been out of character for him. I think in a way his death in episode 5 was quite fitting as it kind of summed him up as a character, trying to do the right thing and contribute but making mistakes and screwing up.

It's kind of funny thinking back at how many people Ben ended killing, albeit unintentionally, during his journey. The number is staggering.

Yeah I agree. How he died in ep 5 completely matched his character. Ep 4 death? Not So much. He is a kid who is scared of being eaten alive, so wanting that to happen sounds kinda unrealistic

Ben does have a huge impact on the game, just not a good one or intentional one.

In ep 4 he's hoping that falling several stories to the ground would kill him instantly, thus saving him from being eaten alive. Unfortunately that doesn't happen and he dies in horrible pain and agony.

I also think it was fitting how he died. It seemed clear that he wasn't going to get past his accident-prone abilities, and always bogs the group down.

Maybe the thing Ben did for redemption was help Kenny change from a guy who cares only about his family to someone who's willing to pay the ultimate price to save his friends.

One of the reasons I kept Ben alive in my first playthrough was a sincere hope that he would redeem himself. I still don't think he has redeemed himself in my view, but I haven't thought about it the way you put it, Mornai, since Ben's little tirade did snap Kenny out of his depression and that can be seen as redemption. But like pretty much all things Ben, it was not intended since Ben was pretty much just whining about how terrible his life was and how people should thus lay off his inadequacies.

The one thing I do like about keeping Ben alive was that he does manages to retrieve Carley's gun, which is the last memento we have of her. Still, letting Ben fly was much more satisfying to me.

Why do people think it's Carley's gun? I saved Doug and Ben still takes it. Anyway, Ben didn't have the occasion to redeem himself, but after Crawford he grew up and began to admit his mistakes, stand up against Kenny and doing his best in defending the house. That's enough for me.

Why not? The group could've grabbed the pistol on a later supply run to the pharmacy. If Carley survived, it's just a more special piece of memento. Either way, yeah, there's no official canon confirmation either way but a good narrative allows some flexibility so long as it makes sense on little stuff like this.

It's just a gun. I think the one Ben has is the one Lilly used to kill Doug/Carley, since Lee gives it to him if you take her with you, but it doesn't mean I think it's special.
PS: isn't "Over the Hills and Far Away" a Nightwish song?

There's little bits of gun continuity throughout the game, like i think Lilly uses Danny St.Johns rife in the fight with the bandits in episode 3, ands that's the only gun like that you see in the game, so it makes sense that its Carley's (though its also the one that killed her so its not that great a memento), like double u said you see Lee and Kenny on supply runs in Macon and if she died there its pretty obvious with the group low on weapons they would have gone back for it at some point.

I do believe they mention Lee picking up her gun at point, I don't remember.
http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Carley

Look at the trivia, it tells you how Lilly would have Carley's gun, and that she killed her with it xD. Also that Lee picks it up and uses it to train Clementine, kill walkers, etc. The gun is dropped in ep 5. If Ben is alive he saves it for you.

Making it one of the great things of keeping Ben, beside for telling Kenny off :P

I'm sure the gun Ben has was the one Lilly used because Lee already gets one after he arrives at the motor inn.

Ben's death is like that of Lee's. It's unexpected, yet simple, and shows the unpredictable world they live in. He didn't go out like a hero (In Episode 5 anyways), but that doesn't mean he went out like a coward.

Can anyone make a bigger Impact than him?

He told us that we all infected, he got us kicked out of the Motor Inn, He got Doug killed, he Got Doug bitten, He got more people killed... and then more... And in the end even got Kenny killed which knowing the Walking Dead universe might have got Christa and Omid killed as they are now stuck in Savannah surrounded by walkers with no mode of transportation
Ben wins the Impact award hands down

I'm sure his father, the Grim Reaper, is really proud of him.

I agree.Ben progresses the story more than anyone. Most impactful by far just in horrible ways. Didnt save clem in the street that leads to chucks demise-pullin out the ax in the door in crawford brie dies. Even both of his deaths are because of him.Bell tower he tells lee to drop his sorry ass. Then he is so unaware in a world where EVERYTHING can kill you he slips and falls killing kenny and himself. How much more impact from this worthless guy do you want.

Yes, and a Led Zeppelin song apparently. However, the one I have in mind is from the awesome TV show Sharpe.
