Question Sam & Max: System crash in all episodes / no idea, what's wrong

Hey there!

Unfortunately I don't get an answer on the German Telltale / JoWood site. Maybe here I'll be more lucky... ?
I've purchased Sam & Max two weeks ago. Installating and starting the game was no problem. I could start an episode, see the intro, then Sam and Max talk to each other, but afterwards when I start to control Sam, the system crashes everytime: Blue display with a text telling something about an error and that the pc has to be shut down. This text only shows up two seconds, so I'm not able to read all the text and I wasn't fast enough to take a photo of it.
I have DirectX 9.0 and my computer complies with all of the other system requirements: I'm using Windows XP, my video card is a Radeon X 1600 / 1650 series (256 MB), etc.. What is or might be the problem?

Maybe someone could help me?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have these problems with Sam & Max Season 1.

Thank you!

First read this article: http://www.tunexp.com/tips/maintain_...h_auto-reboot/ which tells you how see the blue-screen longer then 2 seconds. Then read this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic40108.html which will tell you what you're looking at AND how to the use the Event Viewer. The event viewer will hopefull have an entry describing why the system crashed.

I would suspect video-drivers first. You got recent drivers? For ATI cards sometimes the most recent drivers cause problems, so if you have the newest you *might* want to try downgrading.

Did you try setting Sam & Max to the smallest display resolution it supports? Yes it will look ugly but it's good to check if it works. First look in the event log though.

What fpostma said. Also, even if your DirectX is up to date, it never hurts to run the updater again. Also, some people have reported that Omega's version of the drivers work on their system when the official drivers do not.
