After clearing the bees in the town I clicked on the door of the police station and PC Dibbins came out and dropped the gorgonzola. Unfortunately I accidentally clicked on the door again and the gorgonzola disappeared.
I didn't think this important until I got the Sniffer 3000 to the top of the hive without the lullaby record and got thrown off. I then got the lullaby record on to the hive by throwing it through the hatch outside but now the wensleydale, the sniffer 3000 and the lullaby record are all on top of the hive. Without the gorgonzola I have no way to get the sniffer 3000 to come back down!
Do I have to start again?

have you tried picking up more wensleydale from town (free samples?)

I wasn't able to pick up any more wensleydale from Paneer's and, as I mentioned, I didn't have the gorgonzola as it had disappeared.
In any case I played through again, this time taking care to pick up the gorgonzola as soon as Constable Dibbins dropped it, and completed the game.
