Default Thanks for the mouse controls!

I just wanted to say I really appreciate the option to use the mouse only to play this game. I had never expected this to be included. This is so much better for me than using a joystick or the keyboard.

Also, I think it works pretty well! I read some people found it awkward... and of course it won't be the same as point & click (maybe they're comparing it to that?), but for what it is... it works very well. I does not stand in the way of me enjoying the game, I got used to it in minutes and now I don't even think about it anymore.

Very cool!

Seconded, the mouse controls for me are a godsend (I cannot stand WSAD).

I had to use WSAD because my mouse would either overshoot or undershoot what I was aiming (pointing?) for.

Thankfully WSAD or arrows still do walking direction and I pulls up inventory. Just clicking (especially on the boat at the beginning) was a heck of a lot of work for me.

Not enough to spoil my enjoyment though (but close sometimes)

I thought there was going to be controls so you didnt have to hold down the mouse button to get him to move?

While the new mouse control is not as easy to use as point and click, it is definitely better then nothing. I find it quite easy to use.

Though the control method reminds me of some script I made for mouse control in W&G.

Ironically, since I'm using a laptop with a mouse from hell, I think that the ASWD controls are a godsend.

I'm using a gamepad. I'm serious.

Yeah, the mouse controls were a bit tricky to begin with, but I got accustomed to them easy. Was a great suprise, Telltale. =]

Also, was I the only one who clicked once expecting Guybrush to move across the screen? I know I did it in many occasions =P

Yeah, I was really surprised myself... I hadn't visited the forums in a while, so I missed the announcement about these mouse controls. Last I'd seen, it was looking rather bleak.

I really do appreciate this, it seems this might be a direct result of fan feedback.

How? I figured it would support Xbox 360 controllers since the engine is now capable of that.... When I use my 360 controller I still need to use my mouse to do everything else.... What gives?

Such a thing exists, but I got it working very late into development and so we didn't have time to make a good way of changing mosue control modes. Look for it in Ep 2, maybe.

I would love to figure out how to use the Xbox 360 controller. Will they add more support for this later?

Personally I really dislike the mouse control. I'd rather just point and click, or else use a controller.

I'm glad it works for you.

It seems that a lot of people (including a number of reviewers) are having a hard time with it -I think it may be because they don't understand how it works. It's a little mouse-based joystick emulator, and the little red arrow you're moving around inside of that circle is essentially the joystick direction.

Urgs no gamepad, oh well back to the mouse and the working room instead of the sofa...
Seriously I am pretty sure this will be fixed in the long run my guess is they had so much to do to implement the new control scheme that they could not adapt the gamepad.
I will give it a try, but if you know what to do my guess is it will work out fine.
Kudos to telltale to listen to the crictizism from all the people who prefer mouse only. It however also would be nice still to be able with a gamepad

I have not tried it yet due to the release time I am still downloading, but I am sure it is a matter of getting used to, most people have a hard time to adapt to new things, but in the end it will work out fine as long as it is mouse only.

I have to admit, I was quite disappointed when the old school point-and-click moving controls were absent, and the joystick emulator (as you call it) was a bit rough at first. However, I got used to it fairly quickly, and it works much better than I originally expected. I still would prefer point-and-click to be honest, though.

I was excited to see that you can double click on an item to make Guybrush run to it...very helpful when you are traveling all over the island/revisiting locations looking for that last "piece" of the current puzzle.

I'm a few hrs in to the game so far, and it's getting better by the minute. I feel like I'm 10 years old again!

I'm using a program called Xpadder. I've got the keyboard controls AND the mouse controls mapped to the gamepad. If you Google for it, look for version 5.3. The latest version, 5.4, requires you to pay for it, and it looks like it will be that way from now on. However, it's a great little piece of software.

Ah thanks for the hint, I have used it in the past but forgot about it since almost any new game which comes from the console world supports the xbox gamepad natively.
Anyway I just paid for the program, because I remembered it being very usefu.

Yeah, they were a bit oddball at first, but I got used to them. I prefer WASD, but if I'm enjoying a cool glass of grog, I'll use the mouse.

What a farce!

Toying around with some second class mouse steering option with WASD as the only fallback option beeing left instead of finally taking the time implementing a well working point&click and improving the hotspot selection in the controller support or at least providing the same steering experience Wallace&Grommit offered.

With all the control dicussions in Wallace&Grommit and Tales of Monkey Island i never read anywhere that they wanted to remove the controller support. I really feel spoofed by them looking at how i am supposed to steer the game.
