Default Why no mention of a STEAM release?

I would have preferred to have got this on STEAM although when people asked on here about when/if it would happen, nothing was said.

Owing to that, I pre-ordered although the game was then released on STEAM at the same time as the TTG release.

Any chances of you allowing us to add our serial numbers into STEAM?

Yeah I would like this too. Steam didn't give any notice that the game will also release on their platform. Neither did telltale mention it would be released on steam at the same time.

Seems rather sneeky to me which is disappointing but Telltale are the owner and publisher so they cant balme an NDA or the like.

This would have involved planning so why could they not tell us so we could choose where to buy the game from?

Yeah, I would have prefered to purchase through steam as well. Tried my serial code on there this morning but it doesn't work.

I wanted to purchase through steam, but the Steve Purcell box art sucked me in and I regret nothing!

Why would you want to purchase it through Steam? Telltale offers a much better service than they do, and Steam don't offer anything exclusive. You can add non-Steam games into your Steam list and play it from there, so you're missing out on absolutely nothing.

Err considering the replys on another thread and the treatment of us from the UK during the release of this game and a massive lack of contact, I beg to differ.

Btw I did ask in a support request when it would be released on steam, that question was "forgot" about.

I like Steam, and I intend to get The Secret of Monkey Island through it.

But any bonuses that Telltale gives, and the DVD at the end of the season, will always sell me on buying straight from the source.

The game was late by a couple of hours, and was released half an hour into the 8th for us here in the UK. Sure, I was slightly peeved, but Steam didn't, and wont, have the game up before Telltale.

I'd much rather have the games on Steam. I hope that TTG will make an option available to activate your products on Steam (even though I don't think they will), with the keycode you've got anyway.

I'm quite annoyed that they didn't care to respond to the big steam thread at all before release. Seemed like they were happy to answer any questions on the forum EXCEPT anything regarding a steam release. Very lame Telltale.

This will no doubt be the first and last Telltale game I will buy directly from them. I probably won't get the DVD anyway.

Oh and you can be sure it won't be possible to activate the game on steam, Telltale would have to pay Valve for that option.

It could be that they were obligated not to talk about it ahead of time. Maybe their higherups or partners didn't want them to thwart any fence sitters from buying straight from Telltale.

Yes, that was in fact my point. Not a word on steam to maximise profits.

OH GREAT ... they now sell it on steam, i really hate telltale games for that, i wrote them an email an asked them if they would sell it on steam ...

emily from telltale games replied this to me:

"I don’t know what the plans are for Tales of Monkey Island on Steam. Even if the game does show up on Steam, though, the pre-order bonuses and the Collector’s DVD at the end of the season are only available to customers who buy the games from Telltalegames.com, so if those are important to you, I suggest placing a pre-order with Telltale."

i thought they not gonna sell it on steam, so i preordered here, now its on steam but i cant activate it there, im really frustated!!!

I don't really care, since I got it much cheaper from TTG, since steam has €=$ policy. Plus TTG probably wanted to maximise their own preorder offer, which is understandable. I am not sure if steam even had it as *preorder* or is it only "complete pack".

Sure you can rage all you want about TTG "not telling you", but I think its Steam that should highlight upcoming releases. Steam is ok platform, but I dont really care whetever I start monkey island from my desktop or steam, escpesially in this case, where the overall time spent playing particular episode is somewhat short.

People have two options:

1.) Ask for a refund from Telltale and then re-buy it on Steam
2.) Use the handy, dandy, "Add a non-Steam game to My Games list..." feature.

Other than weird individual psychological reasons, what would action #2 not achieve that buying on Steam would?

As much as I find buying Telltale games on Steam to be inadvisable at best, it doesn't seem right that the option for purchase wasn't made clear ahead of time. Neither Steam nor Telltale mentioned that it would be available in both places, leading people to assume that it would only be available in Telltale's store for at least a limited period of exclusivity.

I don't think buying on Steam is the best option, for me it isn't even an option. But if they were planning on releasing it there, someone should have said something.

To play devil's advocate here, a lot of people like the Steam activation system. They want the game tied to their account across several PCs and through infinite re-installs over the entirety of Steam's lifespan(or at least as long as Steam has those nicely loose activation rules). Whereas the "Add non-Steam game" option, while retaining most of the features of Steam, does pretty much just copy the game's shortcut into the My Games list.

Might be because today alot of lucas games are on there now. So they might not have wanted it out there that MI was going to be on there tell they launched.
