Game of Thrones Episode 3 - 'The Sword in the Darkness' Out Now

Posted on March 25 by puzzlebox

Game of Thrones Episode 3 out now

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series Episode 3 - 'The Sword in the Darkness' is out now on PC/Mac, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360! Look for it on iOS and Android-based devices starting tomorrow.

This one is an exciting milestone: with episode 3 of 6 out, we're now officially at the halfway mark of the season! Check out what the press had to say about the latest episode...

  • GamesRadar - "easily on par with some of the TV show's best episodes... The Sword in the Darkness is Game of Thrones' best showing yet"

  • GameSpot - "It made me physically anxious... fabulously disturbing... If you've been playing it safe up to this point, deferring to answers that keep the characters safe and relatively benign, you're in for a rude awakening. Episode Three marks the beginning of the end for neutrality. There are tough decisions to make and no way around them, making this episode true to the Game of Thrones atmosphere at its core."

  • Jimquisition - "The Sword in the Darkness sees Telltale's Game of Thrones start to really hit its stride... After this episode, I finally feel invested in every single point-of-view character, each one having been given a solid task with a sizable array of antagonists and risks on the line. Very well done stuff all round"

  • VentureBeat/GamesBeat - "I'm still riveted. I still cannot wait to play the next episode. I'm still amazed that you get this much entertainment for just about $5 a month. And I'm still not missing the show nearly as much as I would if Telltale wasn't taking great care of me."

  • Entertainment Weekly - "with some brutal but memorable story beats, 'Darkness' sets the stage for a thrilling second half of the season."

  • Game Informer - "wonderfully captivating"

  • PC Gamer - "As a book reader, I have a pretty good idea of where HBO's latest season is headed, but this... feels like something entirely new."

  • Winter-is-Coming.net - "With The Sword in the Darkness, Telltale has once again proven that it is the best in the business. The episode easily gets 10 out of 10 stars from me, and I simply cannot wait for Episode 4."

Tales from the Borderlands Episode 2 - 'Atlas Mugged' is out now on PC/Mac, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360... and it hits iOS and Android-based devices tomorrow!

If you need an extra push to start playing and join the madcap hilarity, look no further than what the press is saying about this latest episode!

GameSpot - "It's absurd, lewd, and hilarious... a blitz from one high-energy scene to another... continues to be a crazy ride through a story that successfully employs the most beloved elements of the Borderlands franchise."

Alt text

Entertainment Weekly - "succeeds in carrying the series' momentum and delivering one of Telltale's most engrossing series yet... [Atlas Mugged] retains the original series' hilarity and gives it a heart I wouldn’t have expected... proves that skipping Tales would be to miss out on one of Telltale's strongest franchise starts."

IGN - "It constantly oscillates between thrilling action scenes, hilarious back-and-forth banter, and some poignant character moments... the episode ends on one of the best cliffhangers in recent Telltale memory... I consider myself completely on board for Telltale's wild ride."

Alt text

Polygon - "This is a world where death is cheap and suffering is common, but the game goes out of its way to show you a fun, sometimes joyful time. The voice actors, from Troy Baker to Patrick Warburton, approach the script with gusto, and the writing crackles with the sort of life and energy that drives the best comedy."

Alt text

Shacknews - "'Atlas Mugged' makes it clear that Tales from the Borderlands is rapidly becoming a Handsome Jack story. Those looking to see what becomes of the dastardly villain may find their curiosity piqued. As for Rhys and Fiona, the peril surrounding them and their friends is only growing bigger and, judging by the ending, it doesn't look like the third episode will go any easier on them."

Alt text

NZGamer - "the latest episode has been worth the wait. Everything that made the debut great - the humour, the larger-than-life characters, the gorgeous art - is still present... spot-on delivery... had me falling off the couch in laughter... Borderlands has always been hilarious, but there's some unexpected depth here as well."

God is a Geek - "the writing is so sharp. It's difficult to think of ten games that make you laugh out loud when playing them, but Tales from the Borderlands does it with such ease that you wonder where the writers have been hiding. Self aware, they totally, absolutely continue to understand the Borderlands universe... this might actually be Telltale's best series"

Posted on December 2014 by puzzlebox

Minecraft: Story Mode logo

As 2014 comes to a close, we are delighted to confirm our partnership with Mojang to create a new episodic game series based on one of the most popular video games in history - Minecraft.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

For more information on why Telltale and Mojang chose to work together, visit Mojang's blog.

2014 is Telltale's tenth anniversary year; seeing in the climactic finales of the critically acclaimed and best-selling The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two. With the recent premieres of both Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, our 2015 lineup will include the remainder of both of those new series, and now it will also include the premiere of Minecraft: Story Mode.

After ten years of making games, Telltale is JUST getting started! We would like to thank all of our incredible fans across the world, as we continue to forge ahead in creating adventures where the most important author of each story is YOU. We'll have more in the months ahead, but for now, we thank you again, and wish you a safe and happy holiday and a prosperous New Year!

Didn't catch the launch trailer? Check it out below!

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series - Ep 1: 'Iron From Ice' is priced at US$4.99 or equivalent across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Users on PlayStation platforms can opt to purchase the Season Pass upfront which includes access to Episodes 1 through 6 at a cost of US$24.99, saving them a total of $4.99 versus the option of purchasing each episode individually.

Users on Xbox platforms can purchase the first episode individually for a total cost of US$4.99 or equivalent. Users then have the option to purchase the season multi-pass which will allow them access to Episodes 2-6 at a cost of an additional $19.99. Here's what some folks in the press had to say about this first episode in the season!

  • Entertainment Weekly - "...drama as intriguing as some of the HBO series' most complex stories"

  • WinterIsComing - "Telltale Games nail the Game of Thrones experience... it's hard to imagine it being a better Game of Thrones story. I cannot wait for the second episode."

  • Gaming Trend - "My mind was absolutely blown... As the credits rolled on this first chapter, my jaw was on the floor from the incredible conclusion. Telltale has mastered the art of interactive and compelling storytelling. If this chapter is any indication of the writing we can expect to see in the next five episodes, we are in for an amazing game."

  • BuzzFeed - "I felt that old Game of Thrones feeling: highly shocked, highly bummed out, highly unsure who was really responsible. Oh, and one extra: highly wanting much, much more."

  • Cheat Code Central - "...the narrative woven by Game of Thrones is a compelling one, filled with intrigue, conflict, and death… lots and lots of death. I’d highly recommend it to either fans of the books, the HBO series, or Telltale games in general."

  • The Escapist - "Telltale's latest episodic adventure game is a testament to the skill of the writers and designers at the studio. They took the dense subject material of Martin's world, threw it in a blender, and spat out a tale just as grim and harrowing... Yeah, I'm hooked"

  • GameSpot - "a bloody political thriller with an original cast that shines... genuinely gut-wrenching, horrific, and real... will leave you sick with delight and sadness as the credits roll"

  • GamesRadar - "I was squirming in my chair... a nerve-wracking experience that'll keep you excitedly anxious 'til the end"

  • Game Informer - "An intriguing and suspenseful first look into the Forresters' lives that hits all of the tones that Telltale and George R. R. Martin are known for"

  • IGN - "Tough decisions, well-acted original characters in interesting situations, and a strong, provocative ending kick off Telltale's new Game of Thrones series in a great way"

  • Joystiq - "It captures perfectly the machinations, intrigue and violence that are the hallmark of the show... Everything you feel while watching the show you will feel even more acutely as you play Iron from Ice, because this time you're not a spectator, you're a participant."

  • TIME - "An Amazing New Way To Enjoy Game of Thrones"

  • GamesBeat - "Give me more. Let me undo what I have done. Telltale, I need to see what happens next, and I need to make sure that I can fix it."

'Game of Thrones' Season Premiere Launch Trailer & Release Dates

Posted on December 2014 by puzzlebox

Today we are delighted to share the season premiere launch trailer for Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series. The first of six episodes, 'Iron from Ice', debuts starting TOMORROW!

Season premiere dates:

  • Tues, Dec 2nd - PC/Mac, PS4 North America (SCEA)
  • Wed, Dec 3rd - Xbox One & Xbox 360 worldwide, PS4 Europe (SCEE)
  • Thurs, Dec 4th - iOS via the App Store
  • Tues, Dec 9th - PS3 North America
  • Wed, Dec 10th - PS3 Europe

The series will also be coming to Android-based devices later this month - stay tuned here on the blog, and to Telltale Games on Twitter and Facebook for the latest details!

This new story tells of House Forrester, a noble family from the north of Westeros, loyal to the Starks of Winterfell. Caught up in the events surrounding the War of the Five Kings, they are thrown into a maelstrom of bloody warfare, revenge, intrigue, and horror as they fight to survive while the seven kingdoms tear themselves apart.

So who can you expect to play as in this series? You'll actually experience five different points of view, each a member of House Forrester. Playing as five characters reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but more than that, the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester - so you'll need to be mindful of how your actions as one character may affect the rest of your house. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you're truly playing the Game of Thrones... where you win, or you die.

You'll meet and interact with several characters you already know and love (or hate) from the HBO TV series as well. We've already revealed Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon. There will definitely be a couple more... but we'll leave you to discover those for yourself!

  • Entertainment Weekly - "another excellent and surprising entry in Telltale's brand of storytelling... Whether in the decision-making, the twists on expected narrative conventions, or just in how well the game captures both Gearbox and Telltale at their best, 'Zer0 Sum' is a tremendous start."

  • GamesBeat - 96/100 - "Tales from the Borderlands' first episode is a fantastic introduction to what is sure to be an amazing franchise... If you are a fan of Borderlands, you will love it. Telltale has created a fantastic opening to a story rife with humor, interesting characters, powerful decisions, and effective mysteries. In the span of Episode 1: Zer0 Sum's two and a half hours, Rhys and Fiona became some of the best lead characters Telltale has ever created, and I’m entirely on board for their journey."

  • Polygon - "Telltale has a confident take on the source material that leads to one of its best episodes yet... It's an enjoyable, violent and well-crafted introduction to the series. Episode 2 can't come soon enough."

  • Badass Digest - "It's a Coenesque romp of crime, incompetence and catastrophe that drags its characters through a variety of environments and past a host of colourful characters... 'Zer0 Sum' is a refreshing return to comedy from the studio, and it paves an exciting path ahead for future episodes"

  • Kotaku - "I was grinning pretty much the entire time... trust me, you'll laugh"

First trailer for 'Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series'

Posted on November 2014 by puzzlebox

This trailer is one we've been absolutely dying to share for a while now! If you've been keeping up with the latest, you'll already know that Telltale's upcoming Game of Thrones series is based on the award-winning HBO television drama, and tells the story of House Forrester. Caught up in the events of The War of the Five Kings, they're placed in a precarious position where members of the household must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom.

Today we can announce that some cast members of the television series will reprise their roles in the game. While you'll get to control five members of House Forrester in your story, the series will have you interacting with characters you already know and love (or hate) throughout the season, including Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon. Additional cast members will appear in later episodes... as for who and when? That would spoil the surprise!

Alt text

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North - the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are 'Iron from Ice', which echoes their belief that - like the ironwood itself - the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

Alt text

The game will be played from five different points of view. Each is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, each will play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction.

Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that you'll need to be mindful of as you play through the season. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you're truly playing the Game of Thrones... where you win, or you die.

'Iron from Ice', the first of six episodes, will be arriving for download soon on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and iOS... until then, look out for clues scattered around the web for more info about some of the characters you'll be meeting!

Your Story Begins: First details on 'Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series'

Posted on November 2014 by puzzlebox

Based on HBO's award-winning television drama, Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series tells the story of House Forrester. Caught up in the events of The War of the Five Kings, they are placed in a precarious position where members of the household must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom.

Alt text

Our game series is based on the world, characters and events seen in HBO's TV show, which in turn is based on George R. R. Martin's books (A Song of Ice and Fire). The events in our game series begin towards the end of Season Three of the TV show, and end right before the beginning of Season Five. You will visit familiar locations such as King's Landing and The Wall, as well as unfamiliar locations such as Ironrath, the home of House Forrester.

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks.

Alt text

Ironrath sits on the edge of the largest ironwood forest in Westeros, which has proven to be a strategic advantage for the House. The trees are a valuable commodity; many of the best weapons, ships, and defensive structures include the use of ironwood. House Forrester controls the majority of the ironwood forests in the Wolfswood, much to the chagrin of their bitter rivals, House Whitehill.

Although the Forresters have not appeared in HBO's TV show, they are canon to the world created by George R. R. Martin, having appeared in the book 'A Dance with Dragons'.

You will play the game from five different points of view. Each character you play as is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, each character will play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction.

Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that the player needs to be mindful of. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you're truly playing the Game of Thrones…where you win, or you die.
